What does being part of an inclusive church mean to you?
Being part of an inclusive church means welcoming everybody. While this statement gets tossed around a lot what I like about Wesley is that the church and pastor do a good job of respecting everybody's viewpoints. I like that the church stays away from overt political positions since I firmly believe in the separation of church and state. This separation allows the church to be welcoming for people of diverse political opinions without conveying a sense of judgement based on political preferences.
How do you want to see Wesley grow in the future?
I would like to see Wesley become more involved in the community. I feel that one way churches can grow is to be present in the local community with volunteer work and hosting events.
What is unique about Wesley that made you want to call it your home church?
Wesley has a very welcoming and friendly vibe. When I moved back to Hawaii in 2023 my girlfriend and I attended services in about 5 churches around the island. At the end of the day we enjoyed the laid back style of Wesley and the pastor. The current Pastor continues this tradition with her friendliness and perpetual upbeat personality. I also enjoy how Pastor Amy will deliver non-traditional sermons that make you stop and think.
As Christians, what do you think our role is in Hawaiʻi and the world right now?
A light in the darkness; a city on the hill.
